Mentoring Community Support Groups for Maternal and Child Nutrition
COUNSENUTH provides mentorship and technical support to the Community Maternal and Child Nutrition support group. An example of this is the Chanika group in Dar es Salaam. This group of volunteers was established in 2001 under the support of COUNSENUTH and IBFAN Africa in collaboration with the Ilala Municipal Council as part of implementation of the 10th step of successful breastfeeding.
The group is still active and doing great work in supporting pregnant and lactating women in their community. To achieve this, they work closely with the health facilities staff, primary schools teachers, religious and community leaders in promoting behaviors that support optimal infant and young child feeding practices and maternal nutrition.
